What are you happy about right now?
Dec. 9th, 2005 05:32 pmAside from a dash of homesickness, lovelies, I'd say everything. Keelia's alive and safe and in my bed where she belongs. My wife may have been released from her prison, but she's being carefully watched and not in a position to hurt my Lady. We have Michael and Noah, both of whom bring joy and color into my life.
I'd forgotten what it was like to have a child. The simple joy that their smile can bring. When adults love you, there's a selfish element to it. No matter how great the love, there is always something. No matter the joy, there is always a taint. But not so with a child. Their love is the purest. It can be given because you're a caregiver, of course, the person they rely on, but it isn't just that, because children do not always love their caregivers.
No a child looks at you and sees what's best about you. They see your affection, and they return it, because love begets love. I'd forgotten the power in a child's smile. The magic in a child's laugh.
Noah's made me remember. He rounds us out. Reminds all of us, even when we're howling in exasperation at his antics, that there is something good and pure in this world still.
How could I not be happy, with such a reminder, with such a family as my three?
