The baby was sleeping quietly, long eyelashes resting on porcelain cheeks. Her breathing was quiet, little snuffles of contentment at being fed and dry and warm. Soft red curls rested on her forehead. His long fingers brushed them aside gently, one tracing down her cheek. She nuzzled at the stray finger, mouth seeking and he chuckled softly.
She fretted just slightly, but his fingers stroked her head until she calmed, finding her own forefinger and sucking on it gently. Her eyes opened a slit, peering up at him, blue meeting green. He smiled, enchanted.
"Welcome back, a ghrá mo chroí."
