His heart was beating like a racehorse at the end of the Kentucky Derby. It was hard to hear anything over the sound of it. He could smell her. Slightly spicy perfume, and her own scent underneath. Warmth and sunshine and...
She was staring at him expectantly, her hand clutched in his. He flushed slightly, embarrassed to be caught gawking like a schoolboy. But she was here. By herself. She'd come to him. He had to take it as a good sign. Saturday night had been amazing. Sunday morning...waking up in their arms had been heaven. He'd watched them sleep, tangled together and curled up around him. They both looked so young, so innocent. He listened to them breathe, just watching them for a long time. When Keelia had started to stir, he'd kissed them both softly and in a fit of romantic fancy left two roses on the pillow and retreated to his own place. He didn't want her to have to face him if she wasn't ready.
He didn't know when that would be and hadn't expected it to be so soon.
And she was still staring.
